I Am Smitten by a Kitten and Snogging a Dog - Review of Untrainable by Jamie Schlosser

Untrainable
Author: Jamie Schlosser
Release Date: 12/13/2018

๐Ÿถ Blurb ๐Ÿถ

It doesn’t take much to become the laughing stock of reality television. Just ask Theodore “Theo-Dog” Legend. Once you’ve pissed on a fire hydrant in front of the paparazzi, no one ever lets you forget it.

Hadley Holiday is on her way to being America’s sweetheart, thanks to her dog training routine on a national talent show. Although she didn’t win first prize, she snagged Theo’s attention and he’ll do just about anything to make her his—even if it means being the butt of everyone’s joke once again.

Hadley wants a career in showbiz. Theo needs to get rid of that doggone nickname—pun intended. Pairing the two together on a new show sounds like a disaster waiting to happen... or it could be the best thing that’s ever happened to them.

Ready set --- head for the potty pads because once again Jamie Schlosser gets the reader unaware and into giggle fits.  I first found Jamie's writing in Untamable. If you've not read that book, YOU NEED TO. It's not a necessary to proceed with  Untrainable, but more of a moral imperative.  Because it's fucking funny.

Ms. Schlosser has the ability to find characters who are completely relatable and yet finds themselves in the land of awkward for your entertainment. I had a book buddy find Untamable and request I read so I can help get the word out on this highly entertaining story. And we did. Fast forward to about three weeks ago...

Unassuming I cruise through my daily social media and find JAMIE SCHLOSSER IS RELEASING A BOOK.  #TrueStory I'm rather fangirling. Umm...holy shit... the author notices along with my book buddy and asks if we want to advance read.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW???!!!??
HELLS TO THE YES!!!

Or some sort of reaction like that.

Now, this type of book is one you buddy read. Why? It makes the experience that much more enjoyable. It turns out to be a competition on who can highlight and message the other with a line that tickles their fancy. There was a lot of tickling happening too.

What is about this story? Now, don't get me wrong. I like Hadley. She was a strong, assuming heroine who you can relate to as your best friend. But who stole the story? Theo. Yes, he is a bad boy. He needs someone to reign him in. But damnit - his heart shines through the pages. I dare you to not fall in love with his character.  His character arc moves with his realization that he carries a heavy burden  that gets swept under the antics. Don't worry - it's not one of those stories that turns sad. No, in all of Theo's flaws, his self realization makes him human and appealing.

As with Untamable, Ms. Schlosser introduces secondary characters involved in scenes that keep you turning the pages to figure just how this is going to turn out without bodily injury. If you love a great rom-com with heart and heat, don't just borrow but buy the book. This will be one that I pick up time and again when I need something to lighten the day and leave a smile on my face.

Christmas In Kentbury by Claudia Burgoa - Ready to jingle your bell - Review

Christmas In Kentbury
Claudia Burgoa
Release Date: December 12, 2019

❄️ Blurb ❄️

Knightly

If practice makes perfect, I should excel at pretending that Heath Miller doesn’t affect me. That I’m immune to that wide jaw, taut body, and the unique woodsy-aftershave-engine-oil scent that makes my ovaries explode.

Since before I could walk, he’s been my champion. My best friend. The one problem I can’t solve. Why? If I tell him I love him, I’ll lose him and his adorable daughter. Maybe the best Christmas gift I can give him—and myself—is to turn in the keys to my B&B and put some distance between us.

Heath

I’ve made my share of mistakes. Lost my MIT scholarship, came home to fix cars and romance Kentbury’s female tourists—until I wound up a single father. For all eight years of Cassie’s life, Knightly’s been my anchor.

I’ve changed. Cassie’s the best part of me, and Knightly’s been there every step of the way. But as Christmas lays its mantle of magic over Kentbury, she drops a bomb—she’s following a dream to New York City. I’ve got one week to do everything, say everything I’ve never dared. To convince my best friend to be mine—ours—for all the holidays to come.

I've been on a binge lately of holiday themed books. I want all the holiday goodness wrapped up in a story to celebrate the season. Not one or two chapters covering the months of November to December. I want page one to The End wrapped up in 'Love Actually' in book form.

Now, truth be told by me over and over again - no angsty angst drama where I am concerned. Fluffy butt unicorns in my corner of the book world. Lo and behold I start reading Claudia Burgoa and my poor heart takes a beating. She writes contemporary romance where the reader (and her characters) are pulled through the wringer. I do burst out of my self imposed box when angst is done well. And followers, Claudia does the angst well.

But wait...She's going to touch my beloved trope??? Should I run from the hills?

Hells to the no! Claudia has written a friends-to-lovers story that will make all the Hallmark-cheesy-holiday-movie-of-the-day happy. Sure there is a bit of uncertainty to the story's main characters must overcome, but you are cheering for the hero.

Knightly is easy to connect with as any woman who has watched on the side lines while her dream is just out of reach. She realizes - with the help of her brothers - it's time to cut bait and move to maybe a different dream.

Cue waking up Prince Charming.

Heath  -well as all men typically are - it's working, not broke, don't see anything to fix.  When his eyes are opened to a potentially life changing problem, it's time to fix it.

Claudia wraps up this delightful story with believable main characters and secondary characters who round out the story. This isn't a story about falling in love - it's one of realizing you are and grab the brass ring.  Knightly is what I love most in a female lead - strength and determination. Heath cares that strong, silent type that you know when he's finally got a clear picture there is no stopping him helping her find happiness. One cannot forget the most important second character - the town of Kentbury. The folks are quirky and yet you can feel the dedication.  There is more story to be had from what this novella introduces.  I hope Ms. Burgoa delivers a future look into this world.

If you are looking for something that has heart, heat and will make you feel better at the end of the pages, do not hesitate to pick up this gem.

5 out of 5 stars.

Professor David is TOO Sexy and Nerd to Keep to Myself: ON SALE NOW - Not Quite Perfect by Rebecca Norinne

Title: Not Quite Perfect
Series: Rocky Cove #1
Author: Rebecca Norinne
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 26, 2018

Everything was perfect ... until it wasn't.

On the way to my mom’s surprise wedding, I met the most amazing man. Professor David Carstairs was intelligent, handsome, and oh-so-charming—basically every thinking woman’s dream.
But that dream quickly turned into a nightmare.
There was a reason David and I were on that ferry together, and it wasn’t serendipity. Nope; more like the world’s worst practical joke. It turned out the mysterious groom was none other than David’s father ... giving new meaning to the phrase “keeping it all in the family.”
But I’ve developed decidedly non-familial feelings about the man. Feelings that are growing stronger and stronger every day. And now this whole idea of “one big happy family” is weighing heavy on me—literally. Because what I thought was the flu? Yeah, not so much. Welcome to the family, indeed.

USA TODAY bestselling Rebecca Norinne writes steamy contemporary romance featuring smart and sexy heroines and the men who adore them. When not writing, Rebecca is watching rugby, drinking craft beer, or traveling the globe in search of inspiration for her next story. Find out more at http://www.rebeccanorinne.com

This time of year everyone on social media is looking for the same thing:

Recommend a holiday movie
Recommend a holiday album
Recommend a holiday book

December seems to bring out the happy in us. We want something that will make us walk around with a silly grin for the rest of the day. Look at Lifetime and Hallmark channels. They roll out the OTT (over-the-top) movies that normally we don't tolerate that amount of cheese. Except me.

As you know >> BIG FAN << of the sweet happily ever afters with an instant connect. I want the cheese 24/7/365. Guess what? Melanie Moreland yet again delivers in all things HEA  rolled up in a powdered sugar confection meant to be devoured by readers.

Now, fans of Melanie Moreland know - she writes a male POV like no other. Her beloved Richard Van Ryan still tops as her number #1 book boyfriend for readers. Step aside Mr Van Ryan, here comes Dylan Maxwell.

Dylan is a self absorbed business man with narrow focus. He travels to Newfoundland with one goal - seal the deal. Now, what he finds is an adorable 4 year old with a teenage babysitter and her single mom. Dylan tries to be demanding but these three disarm him at every turn. Alex Walsh isn't going to give him an inch. Seth thinks he needs to roll with the flow. And Noelle - well, she just knows the adults seem to think he is an 'ath-hole'.

As a reader, you feel the connection between all the characters as they form a thin, fragile - yet temporary bond during a snow storm. It's the story of finding the unexpected and learning that you can bend and not break.

Again Melanie Moreland's secondary characters break through and leave an imprint along with Dylan and Alex. This is the fan base plea - give us a story for Seth and Noelle. We'd love to see their future too (maybe a surprise release next year?)

If you've not read Ms Moreland and looking for a holiday read, this will not disappoint. This addition to her Insta-Spark collection is perfection. I HIGHLY recommend this standalone novel.
