BLURB

Dear Phillip,

In one moment life can change. In a blink of an eye. With the click of a finger.

We’ve loved, we’ve fought, and we’ve won. You and I. We’ve held on and on, and now it seems that fate demands we let go.

I thought that you’d be the death of me. Turns out that I may be the death of you.

They taught me that if you love someone, you let them go. They were wrong.

I let go—now, I’d do anything just to have you once more.

I’d do anything…for you.

**Disclaimer: If you have not read No One But You please be aware that this is a prequel to Dorian's HEA, this book does not end happily.

Professor and His New StepSister: Release Blitz for Not Quite Perfect by Rebecca Norinne

NOT QUITE PERFECT by @RebeccaNorinne is live!

On the ferry to my mother’s wedding, I met the most amazing man. Professor David Carstairs was funny, intelligent, and had the sexiest hands I’d ever seen. Unfortunately, everything came crashing down when my mom married his dad!

Thanksgiving dinner just got a whole lot more complicated.

Blurb:

I can’t believe I met the perfect man ...
On the ferry to my mother’s wedding, I met the most amazing man—his love of Faulkner notwithstanding. Professor David Carstairs was funny, intelligent, and had the sexiest hands I’d ever seen.

A conversation about classic American literature led to a romantic dinner at his house ... and then a whole lot of dessert afterward. I’d never done anything like that before, but what we had was something special.

Unfortunately, everything came crashing down the next day. Because my supposedly perfect professor? His dad just married my mom, and now he’s my stepbrother!

Thanksgiving dinner just got a whole lot more complicated.

I’ve finally found the perfect woman ...
En route to watch my father marry yet another young gold digger, I met the perfect woman—her hatred of Faulkner notwithstanding. Victoria Witherspoon was kind, witty, and had the most kissable lips I’d ever seen.

We spent the day together, and then stayed up all night exploring each other’s bodies. I don’t do relationships, but for someone as perfect as Victoria, I was ready to make an exception.

If only her mom hadn’t just married my dad, putting the object of all my fantasies firmly in the “off limits” category.

And I thought the holidays were awkward before.

Excerpt

With sure hands, I untied the jaunty little bow at her waist and the fabric of her wrap skirt parted to reveal lacy white panties that matched her bra. Hot damn! If I'd known that a single tug on that ribbon would have bared Victoria to me, I wouldn't have been able to concentrate all evening. As I slowly folded back the checked fabric, it was like unwrapping the Christmas present you'd coveted all year. I wanted to savor the moment, while simultaneously wishing I could tear through it to get to the gift waiting within.

I traced the edge of the scalloped lace and hitched my finger under the gauzy fabric. "May I?" I asked, raising my eyes to hers.

"Yes." She nodded, her gaze imploring.

I hooked my fingers under the elastic and she lifted her hips to ease their path downward. I took my time removing her bra, trailing the back of my fingers over her skin in a soft caress, my lips following in their wake.

One half of my brain wanted me to dive in and feast on her, while the other half told me to take my time. If I rushed through this, she might leave. And I wanted to keep her right where she was ... all night long. There was no denying she and I had an intense connection, but who knew what that meant back out in the real world? For now, she was mine-even if I didn't know how long it could last.

I captured her mouth again, and when she mewled and arched against me, I kissed my way over her jaw and down her neck to the gentle slope of her breast. I flicked my tongue out and licked her nipple. She sighed, and I sucked the raised peak between my lips and made love to it with my mouth-sucking, licking, laving, biting.

"Please," she whispered on a shuddering sigh.

"Please, what?"

"I need you."

I loved how responsive she was to my touch. How vocal she was about her desires. "You have me."

"Now, David."

I reached over and pulled a condom out of the drawer of my nightstand. Sitting back on my haunches, I tore the foil packet open and rolled the latex down my erection. I guided myself to her entrance, but then paused. Suddenly, I felt the need to tell Victoria that this was more than a one-night stand for me. That come morning, I didn't want to say goodbye. I knew we'd have to-for now-but I desperately wanted to see where this thing between us might lead. "I want to see you again."

She wrapped her legs around my waist and locked her ankles. "Me too," she said, attempting to tug me forward. "But right now I need you to finish what you started."

I chuckled lightly, enjoying her eagerness, and entered into her in one fluid thrust, joining my body to hers. When I bottomed out, I held still, basking in our connection, until Victoria's hips rolled beneath me and she let out a long, satisfied moan.

I knew it was crazy, but with her sigh ringing in my ears, I was reminded of an Oscar Wilde quote: "You don't love someone for their looks or their clothes, but because they sing a song only you can hear." In that moment, it seemed like Victoria's sighs were meant solely for me, that they were the song of my heart.

"David." She tunneled her fingers into my hair to cup the back of my head and pulled me closer. Our lips met and our tongues curled in a long, drugging kiss. She arched into me, tipping her hips forward, welcoming me again and again into her wet, warm heat. I increased the tempo, and she whimpered and lifted her hips from the mattress to meet me thrust for thrust.

"I'm coming, David. Oh, god. Oh-" Victoria flung her head back, her neck stretching taut. She gasped, and her eyes screwed shut.

"That's it, baby." I lowered my hand between us and rubbed my thumb over her clit in tight, insistent circles. "Give it to me. Come all over my cock."

She bit her lip, her face turned red, and then I felt it ... the convulsing that signaled her orgasm. Her breath left her lungs in quick, shallow pants, and then she let out a keening cry as shuddering spasms rocked her body.

I moved against her, chasing my own climax, and when she opened her eyes and smiled up at me, I fell.

Hard.

Abandoning myself to the pleasure, I thrust into her one final time. With her name on my lips, I exploded into the condom with a roar. My vision blurred, and my heart clanged in my ears.

Spent, I hugged Victoria to me. I wasn't a romantic soul-I had the nasty divorce to prove it-but with our bodies still joined, my mind raced with a bevy of romantic thoughts. I'd never believed in love at first sight, but as I placed a kiss to her forehead and she nuzzled into me, I was forced to rethink my stance on the subject.

Not that I was in love with her-that was preposterous-but I knew I could be ... if I let myself.

After Stacia, I'd told myself that I was done with relationships. That falling in love only led to heartbreak and disappointment. But now, laying in my bed with this beguiling woman in my arms, I told myself something new.

I told myself I was willing to take that chance

MY REVIEW

Ah what bookshelf do I file this under? Damn I loved the blurb. I read a bite on Book+Main and basically BEGGED the author for a review copy. So now, how do I cohesively put my thoughts to paper and review the story? I can't. I mean other than - get on this story!!!

I am foremost and unabashedly the reviewer who admits she needs --- no --- REQUIRES hearts, flowers and HEA. No angst in these halls. And damn if Rebecca Norinne check all my boxes. David and Victoria - match made in romance heaven.

What is to love? First off, OMG characters over 25 - WINNING. Then they are smart. Not super intelligent where I don't get the subtle riffs. But smart dialogue. Yep, I fell in love - nope LOVE - with Professor Cockstairs. Oops I mean Carstairs. Both H and h were completely relatable. I mean they met FIRST. Family be damned get on board. But yet, shit, this is real life stuff when dealing with family and OPINIONS. Bull meet china shop. I can't tell you enough. It's entertaining without overplayed humorous scenes. David LOVES Victoria! And as a reader, you can't root or hope for him to win her over to #TeamDavid. I mean Victoria LOVES David but she gets lost in the need to please the people in her life and who hasn't 'been there, done that.' I cannot emphasis how completely entertained I was in for this storyline. It flows and never stalls. Just - time to get your read on romance lovers.

If you've not read Rebecca Norinne, you are in for a treat. Get started on this series! The siblings are going to offer more wonderful dynamic and snappy dialogue to get to their HEA. Standalone? Sure most definitely. But why stop there when more is to be learned...
5 out of 5 awkward family stars.

Okay this is normally where I copy and paste my review. Which I will. HOWEVER, because I have read so many other reviews, I think I pale.  Gird your loins, incoming LONG review...

If you haven't checked out the Vested Interest series or hells bells, Melanie Moreland's writing, you are missing out on the best in romance. Her storytelling always delivers all the necessary elements I need for complete entertainment: heart, soul and happy ever after. But where her specialty lies is in the male characters. They are more than the sum of their exterior shell. Ms. Moreland delivers the personalities flaws and all where the reader cannot help but fall in love with them.

Reid does not disappoint. But exceeded my expectations.

A beta virgin isn't a new trope to introduce to readers. Their story has an expectation. Not Reid. His position isn't because of some tragedy impacting the decision to forgo or ingrained belief. What it boils down to is opportunity with the right person. And once he meets Becca, he recognizes the 'One'. And the courtship - yes, getting to the sex - becomes fun. Imagine being the disenfranchised man and suddenly getting everything you've ever dreamed of. You are going to ROCK HER SOCKS!

But the story has more than just the trials of getting to a HEA. It's about how your past decisions impact your future. Does someone deserve to keep paying for that mistake? Melanie Moreland handles the topic with truth and honor without high drama. Her storytelling gives insight to any characters ability to change or rearrange their 'spots'.

If you've not read the Vested Interest series, yes it can be read as a standalone. I actually took the journey with an ARC reader and I got a resounding thumbs up. Yet, as she said, why miss out on the fabulous and entertaining story of friendship in the series. 5+ out of 5 IT Genius finds his 127.0.0.1

Here's what I forgot to mention:  First, Reid is a beta. And to write a good beta without being a doormat is a feat. (I use doormat as that’s the favorite word amongst reviewers for female betas and I feel it’s gender neutral.)  Reid is a perfect swoonworthy beta. He’d like to have more suave and swagger. Time and nurturing environment just hasn’t been friends with him in that department. Melanie Moreland pulls this off. He is endearing. For all the bumbling he has, Becca just falls hopeless in love with him. She’s confused as fuck by him. But damnit he is irresistible!

My next point is how Melanie touches on the disenfranchised. Often in romance this is ignored or glossed over. Because face it, it’s not sexy. But it’s real. For Reid and the reasons he has the label ‘ex-con’, it can’t be ignored. If he is going to have a HEA, it’s a hurdle to overcome. The fact this author didn’t shy away but embraced it – BRAVA!

Lastly, let’s talk about the heroine. Because folks, everyone is in love with Reid, but what about the girl who captures his heart. She has tough decisions. Girl on her own from the hometown  and friends she adores. And overbearing Dad who is afraid to lose her. That’s drama central right there. Yes, Becca has choices to make. But instead of being a simpering female unable to make decisions, she is a “I-know-what-I-want- grab-the-bull-by-the-horns” woman or pole by the ankles. wink

All in all, this is a story to enjoy watching others fall in love and be in love.

I hope you fall just as hard for Reid as I did.

New-To-Me and New-To-You: Spotlight Jennifer Hanks

Least you forget I have book pimp. She recently reached out to me saying she was sending an author my way. This author had several books published and was looking for readers to take a chance to read her back catalog. Word of mouth can be gold for exposure.

Now, this situation is a bit unusual. I'm not always known for making good choices. Beth, is asking me, the lone wolf to try out an author all by myself.

GULP!

This is reader equivalent of jumping without a parachute. I can do this? I can do this! I mean, before finding social media other than Goodreads, I did this. So let's tap back into my adventurous side. Watch out Jennifer Hanks, here I come!

Let's start with an overview of the two series: The Dimarcos and Elite Securities

Read as a series or Standalones?
Recommendation: Series
Both series are interconnecting and I recommend you read in order to get the character relationship development.

Trope/Catagory/Angst?
Karen's Category: Romantic Suspense, Contemporary Romance
Karen's Trope: Suspense, Instalove, Alpha Males, Strong Females, Family Ties
Angst: 5 out of 10
Sometimes the categories on Amazon aren't the best, but really this firmly fits into the Romantic Suspense with each book. Think: Susan Stoker, Mary Jordan or Dana Marton.

Now a bit of cover snark. To be honest, if I'd judge a book by it's cover (never do), I'd instantly think "sweet" and "instalove" while cruising the KU catalog. I'm a big fan of instalove so no problem, but in no way would I call these stories sweet. And for book 1, Lucy, I will admit I did do a bit of judging a book by it's cover, so I was surprised in the direction the story went. Although the idea of beautiful women standing on their own is represented in the image,  it's the Elite Securities that nails the main series trope.

Time now to turn to each individual book for my review summary:

Lucy - The Dimarco Series Book 1
Release Date: March 15, 2016
Kindle Unlimited: Yes
Review:  Lucy introduces us to the family of the Dimarcos. They are loud, in your business but love you to death. Ben and Lucy are college friends and that's where it ends. But Ben is tired of the inquisition when he comes home and enlists Lucy in a 'fake relationship' favor. However, when they get home an unsuspecting insta-chemistry with twin Christian happens. There is an irresistible pull that Christian plays push away and I want to go 'Moonstruck' on him. Lucy gets into a situation that sends the lovebirds into a tailspin, but love wins out in the end.
Angst level was a 7 for me, maybe a bit of repetition in the storytelling. However this is a debut so wide berth given.
4 stars

Sydney - The Dimarco Series Book 2
Release Date: August 30, 2016
Kindle Unlimited: Yes
Review: Cameron is the perfect of overprotective alpha male, and Sydney is the unlikely female counterpart that isn't going to deter from her plan. Each one is keeping secrets from one another. But they are after the same result with putting away a scum bucket where he can't dirty their lives.
This story ramps up the suspense aspect in Ms. Hanks storytelling. The reader gets insight into the characters associated with Elite Securities for future stories. Although there is some angst in the developing relationship, the suspense keeps the story moving for this reader. We fall deeper in love with these bossy men including their patriarchs.
4 stars

Gianna - The Dimarco Series Book 3
Release Date: July 5, 2017
Kindle Unlimited: Yes
Review:  The story starts out with a case of mistaken identification and surprise from a one-night stand. However, this not the only mystery to be solved. Once everyone is partnered up correctly, Brody and Gianna make a go in the world of co-parenting. But the insta-attraction Brody felt isn't going to burn out but flame higher.
Out of all the brothers, Brody is the 'yummiest' of them all. Maybe the overprotective, alpha, broody male but the way he takes to fatherhood, guard your ovaries ladies.
The storytelling takes stride with better pacing. Readers get more story development for the family dynamics and emotions to keep the pages turning.
4 stars

Elaina - The Dimarco Series Book 4
Release Date: December 12, 2017
Kindle Unlimited: Yes
Review:  Jake is the funny brother. Always one to make any moment lighter. When a tragic injury happens while out with his brothers, Jake takes the blame and a lot of his bright light is dimmed. However, a beautiful neighbor and interfering family just might bring this single dad back to his happy self. However, once again, trouble still lurks in the Dimarco family shadows and it's time for the brothers to save the day.
This time Ms. Hanks brings humor to the relationship development. But it's not all fun and games. There is seriousness with Luke's injury and those responsible. Elaina and Jake get pulled into the tension and leaves the reader wanting to help Jake see the light.
4 stars

My Redemption - Elite Securities Book 1
Release Date: May 21, 2018
Kindle Unlimited: Yes
Review: Now it's a turn for the adoptive family members of the Dimarco family to get their HEA. Who better to feature first than Pike. You meet him in the Dimarco family books and we get to learn all his insecurities when finding his HEA. This wounded vet has a heart of gold and Bella is just the woman to need to help heal her insecurities to find the perfect ending.
This book expands the world of the Dimarcos introducing unique secondary characters. As always, Mom and Dad Dimarco are there to lend the right words at the right time. This story is more suspenseful scenes. However, they keep the story flowing and ready to learn more.
4 stars

Overall Series Rating: 4 Stars
If you are on Kindle Unlimited, this is a great series binge to get hooked on and read through. It's entertaining romance with suspense.  It may have been a bit more angsty at the start of the series. However, this is storytelling growth. I found that as the author wrote more, she develops a style to apply angst to keep the reader engaged without drawing the reader over the emotional wringer.
Jennifer Hanks definitely has a talent for storytelling and looking forward to more stories she will deliver to the romance bookshelves.

Down The TBR Hole #1

First, credit where credit is due: Natalie The Biblioholic and Lost In The Story have done this. With a "Want-To-Read" list of 282 books, I'm thinking I may benefit from this effort. Keeping it honest, today's impulsivity may cause me to put them back on the list at a later date.

Hey, I'm a bookaholic and admit that.

Here's how it works:
I will say - don't use the GR app. You can get to the desktop version from Safari, Bing or Chrome. It works easier to navigate.

  • Go to your Goodreads Want-To-Read Shelf
  • Order the list ascending date added
  • Take a deep breath
  • Chose the first 5 to 10 books to determine their fate
  • Decide: Keep or Banish
Ready Set...GO!

Let's see how I do and tune in next month to work on the next five.
